I've got some musings again. You see? We are now teaching via "Distance Learning" because of a once-in-a-century style pandemic. I want to comment on it but I've got to send a cover letter to an AP at some shithole school.

It's true. When you're a guy like me: consumed with your own importance in other people's lives and use your obligations to others as a means of distraction. TRY TRYING

When you make yourself available -- the information you need in order to take the next indicated action -- will always arrive.  If it doesn’t, try not to shit on yourself.  I’m big believer in “try”.  We all recall Yoda’s famous words, “Do or do not, there is no try.”  My response to that is: take that advice. Live that way. If a couple of decades pass and you fail again, and again, and again.  Chuck that philosophy and try what worked for me: I tried. I got better at doing what I tried to do, one by one, little by little. If you’re short on time and you need massive change, I’m not trying to stop you. It didn’t work for me, is all I’m saying. I’m saying if you’ve just bottomed out after yet another attempt at massive, universal change?  Try trying.

Poverty is the thing. I work in a school. Before I started I expected the parents to be apathetic or absent. The parents I've talked to care deeply. The problem, as I see it, is that they are poor. We talk and talk about this or that. The simple truth is that poverty is fucking people in the ass. Public education has been under assault for 40+ years. I used to think that standardized tests were a misguided attempt to measure student and teacher performance. After less than one year in a public middle school, I am convinced standardized testing is a tool to destroy public education. I'm beginning to wonder the same about Common Core. Another thing I'm dealing with is how boring is the content I'm hired to teach these kids. I realized today that I've been hired to sell swampland in Florida.
